<p>Sitting above the Clyde is Red Sky Bar at the Radisson RED. With floor-to-ceiling glass and an outdoor terrace it catches some of the best sunset light in Glasgow. It’s polished without feeling formal. Go for post-work drinks; come back weekend cocktails with the girls.</p>

<p>Over in Glasgow’s West End, there are few places as cherished as Ubiquitous Chip. Its roof terrace sparkles with fairy lights and is a great spot for a glass of sauvignon with pals and a charcuterie platter to share.&nbsp;As they call it &#8216;a little slice of sky in the west end&#8217;.</p>

<p>An 11th-floor terrace bar that feels like a secret in spite of the fact it&#8217;s in the heart of the city. With Brazilian inspired decor and cocktails, plus views stretching across the New Town and down to Leith, it’s one of the city’s most atmospheric modern drinking spots.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Is it a bit of a tourist trap? Yes. But the uninterrupted views of the castle fromthe roof bar at Cold Town House make it iconic. Better still, the installation of a new retractable roof makes it great whatever the weather.</p>

Wander out onto the balcony to get closer to the views if you like, but if it’s wild out, you can coorie in and sip inside with no loss on the atmosphere.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Open late all summer, the Garden View Deck at the Botanics in Edinburgh does exactly what it says on the tin. It&#8217;s not a sky high viewpoint, but it&#8217;s a lush spot to sip a glass of champagne and enjoy some small plates on a long, summer evening. Open Friday to Sunday from noon.</p>

<p>A seasonal rooftop bar above Joao’s Place, open in warmer months, it has 360-degree views, fire pits and DJs and is an ideal spot for sunset cocktails.</p>

<p>Just behind Edinburgh Waverley, Edinburgh Gin’s rooftop terrace sits over the distillery. Gin and tonic of course is de rigueur, or a cheeky martini, made how you like it, for long, languid summer evenings.</p>
