If there&#8217;s one show to prioritise this June, make it <a href="https://trockadero.org/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo</a> (17 to 18 June) Festival Theatre, Edinburgh, (19 to 20 June) His Majesty&#8217;s Theatre, Aberdeen. The internationally beloved all-male company does something rather extraordinary: it takes the technical demands of classical ballet completely seriously while being absolutely hilarious about it. Tutus, impeccable pointe work, jokes that land with the precision of a pas de deux. It&#8217;s a genuinely joyful night out and exactly the kind of thing you&#8217;ll be telling people about for months.



Also worth your attention: Canadian choreographer Daina Ashbee brings her powerful physical work <a href="https://glasgowinternational.org/programme/projects/serpentine/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">SERPENTINE</a> (6 June) to Tramway, Glasgow as part of the <a href="https://scotland.muddystilettos.co.uk/things-to-do/arts-culture/glasgow-international-2026/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Glasgow International</a> Festival of Contemporary Art. It&#8217;s free, which is frankly the kind of news we like to deliver.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">THEATRE</h2>

The Citizens Theatre continues to deliver. <a href="https://citz.co.uk/whats-on/the-long-drop/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Long Drop</a> (5 to 20 June, Citizens Theatre) brings together Denise Mina&#8217;s crime writing and Linda McLean&#8217;s playwriting in a psychological thriller set in 1957 Glasgow that is also, somehow, pitch-black comedy. Directed by Dominic Hill and entirely unmissable. 



If you missed <a href="https://www.nationaltheatrescotland.com/events/stand-and-deliver-the-lee-jeans-sit-in" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Stand and Deliver: The Lee Jeans Sit-In</a> on its spring run, you&#8217;re in luck. The tour continues with dates at (2 to 3 June) Eden Court, Inverness, (5 to 6 June) Lanternhouse Arts, Cumbernauld and (9 to 10 June) Beacon Arts Centre, Greenock. This retelling of the Greenock factory occupation is the kind of theatre that reminds you why theatre matters.

The world premiere of <a href="https://www.atgtickets.com/shows/single-white-female/theatre-royal-glasgow/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Single White Female</a> (2 to 6 June, Theatre Royal Glasgow) brings the psychological thriller sharply into the digital age, while Pitlochry Festival Theatre is worth making the journey for <a href="https://www.pitlochryfestivaltheatre.com/whats-on/inexperience/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Inexperience</a> (13 June to 4 July). 



Willy Russell&#8217;s <a href="https://dundeerep.co.uk/events/educating-rita" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Educating Rita</a> runs until 13 June at the Dundee Rep if you need a reminder of just how good a well-written two-hander can be.

D.C. Jackson&#8217;s <a href="https://www.tron.co.uk/shows/my-romantic-history/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">My Romantic History</a> (5 to 13 June, Tron Theatre, Glasgow) is, according to its own director Johnny McKnight, one of the greatest stage rom-coms ever written for Scotland. It&#8217;s a bold claim. It&#8217;s also probably true. A fast, funny, painfully relatable story of two people carrying enough emotional baggage from their last relationship to sink a small ship, starring Lewie Watson, Rebecca Wilkie and Julie Wilson Nimmo.



<a href="https://www.traverse.co.uk/whats-on/event/the-table" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Table</a> (18 to 20 June, Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh) sees Lung Ha Theatre Company and Curious Seed join forces with Lyra for another world premiere, and Edinburgh Fringe First winner <a href="https://www.tron.co.uk/shows/kanpur-1857/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Kanpur: 1857</a> (27 June, Tron Theatre, Glasgow) arrives in association with Glasgow Mela for what promises to be a sell-out single night. Book fast.



<a href="https://www.bardinthebotanics.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bard in the Botanics</a> (24 June to 1 August) returns to Glasgow Botanic Gardens for its 25th anniversary season, with Twelfth Night, Othello, Emma and The Duchess of Malfi all on the bill across the summer. Outdoor Shakespeare with a picnic and a glass of something cold? Yes, please.

<a href="https://www.pitlochryfestivaltheatre.com/whats-on/once" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Once</a> (until 28 June, Pitlochry Festival Theatre) continues its run with the award-winning story of a Dublin street musician and an unexpected creative partnership. It&#8217;s the kind of show that sneaks up on you emotionally, which is either a warning or a recommendation depending on your relationship with crying in public.



<a href="https://www.atgtickets.com/shows/miss-saigon/kings-theatre-glasgow/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Miss Saigon</a> (9 to 19 June, Kings Theatre, Glasgow) needs no introduction. Big voices, big emotions, big production. Go.

For something brand new, <a href="https://www.atgtickets.com/shows/allegra/theatre-royal-glasgow/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Allegra</a> (22 to 27 June, Theatre Royal Glasgow) is the world premiere of a new comedy by Tony Award and double Olivier Award nominated playwright Peter Quilter, starring the inimitable Dame Maureen Lipman. One week only, so don&#8217;t hang about.



<a href="https://www.aberdeenperformingarts.com/whats-on/legally-blonde-2/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Legally Blonde The Musical</a> (22 to 27 June, His Majesty&#8217;s Theatre, Aberdeen) brings Elle Woods to the north-east for a week of high-energy, unashamedly pink fun, and <a href="https://meangirlsmusical.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mean Girls</a> (29 June to 11 July, Kings Theatre, Glasgow) rounds out the month with iconic characters, razor-sharp wit and killer songs. Glasgow, we&#8217;re making it happen. And yes, it&#8217;s fetch.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">OPERA</h2>



Scottish Opera&#8217;s <a href="https://www.scottishopera.org.uk/shows/the-marriage-of-figaro/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Marriage of Figaro</a> continues its tour this month, with dates at Festival Theatre, Edinburgh (until 6 June), His Majesty&#8217;s Theatre, Aberdeen (11 and 13 June) and Eden Court, Inverness (18 and 20 June) . If you haven&#8217;t seen it yet, these are your last chances and you really shouldn&#8217;t waste them.

And for something a little more spontaneous, <a href="https://www.scottishopera.org.uk/pop-up-opera-2026" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Scottish Opera</a> is taking things outdoors on 21 June with not one but two free performances at the spectacular clifftop at Dunnottar Castle (21 June, near Stonehaven). The pop-up A Little Bit of The Elixir of Love and children&#8217;s opera Be a Sport, Spike! both take place on the same day with no tickets required. One of the most dramatic operatic backdrops you&#8217;ll find anywhere in the country, and it won&#8217;t cost you a penny. Honestly, what&#8217;s your excuse?
